About Ruth
Hello, I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 20 years of experience and licensed to provide therapy services in both California and Michigan.
I grew up in the heart of the Midwest where values of genuineness, honesty and being down-to-earth were instilled. I sincerely care for each person with whom I work, and I feel a shared investment in the quality of life of those I serve. I am perseverant and passionate in helping clients experience change and I am motivated to help clients feel comfortable in their own skin and empowered in life.
My style is conscientious, deep thinking, but with a casual style of interaction. After years of primarily using cognitive and skills based therapies, I came to find EMDR therapy as an approach that showed promise of helping clients experience transformative, felt changes.
I began my career working with people who survived war-time atrocities and traumatic losses. In addition to addressing the need for safety and justice, I worked with clients to challenge the question of why should we have to be defined or limited by our pasts, problems, or persecutors? I believe that life is tough, and that therapy is about learning that we embody the path to a meaningful and creative life, despite the difficulties or oppression we experience. In my therapy practice, I find it most fulfilling and enjoyable to work with people from all walks of life, rather than niche or specific populations of people.
When Iām not in the therapy office, you can find me training and competing in sports; spending time with loved ones, including my two orange cats Oscar and Felix. I hold a deep care and respect for the natural world and all its creatures. My happy place is digging around in the garden and living a plant-based lifestyle.
